Professor Edwin Ekwue

Professor Edwin Ikenna Ekwue is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering with Biosystems Programme of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus. Before joining UWI in January 19992, he was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Nigeria.

Professor Ekwue is the Chairman of the publication board and former Associate Editor of the West Indian Journal of Engineering and was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Arid Agriculture in Nigeria. He has completed a number of research projects at UNIMAID and The UWI. His research has focused mainly on increasing the understanding of the influence of organic and other amendments on soil erosion, strength, cultivation, compaction, thermal properties, and compression. He has also made inroads into his wider area of specialty (Soil and Water) by conducting research and publishing in areas of Water Resources, Hydrology, and Irrigation. He has written about 119 academic papers, of which 73 have appeared in refereed journals. He has also been involved in a number of consultancies.

Professor Ekwue has held several administrative positions at The UWI, including Deputy Dean (Postgraduate and Outreach), Faculty of Engineering (2008/2009), Manager of the Engineering Institute (2005-2009) and he has acted as the Head of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering on five separate occasions.

Professor Ekwue was awarded the prestigious UWI/Guardian Life of the Caribbean Premium Teaching Award in September 2006.
