dc.description.abstract | The postcard shows the Pointe Baleine Hotel located on the most westerly point of Gaspar Grande. In 1783 Governor Don Jose Chacon granted the Island to Gaspar De Percin. Between 1826 and 1864 a flourishing whaling station was established at Point Baleine also known as Pointe Baleine or Espolon Point. Later the hotel was built owned by Cannings and during World War II, a gunnery was established just above the caves. | en |
