Beautiful historic Samaan trees and mountains frame this impressive monument which was placed at War Memorial Park, Port of Spain, in honour of Trinidad and Tobago nationals who served and died in World Wars I and II, 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. The monument was installed on 28 June 1924 and what was once called the Small Savannah was given the name “War Memorial Park". The words inscribed on the monument are “In honour of all who served. In memory of those who fell”. War Memorial Park is surrounded by Frederick Street to the west, Charlotte Street to the east, the Queen’s Park Savannah to the north and Keate Street to the south. This photograph may have been taken the day the cenotaph was installed or on Memorial Day, as there are several wreaths at the base of the monument and a number of well dressed men and women have congregated there.en
