Abstract
This article contrasts the methods used by teachers in the past with those available to teachers in contemporary times. It is suggested that although teachers may no longer experience a great sense of autonomy in their classrooms because of the demands for accountability and teamwork, teaching today has the potential to be more exciting than in the past
