Abstract

This study sought investigated teacher morale at a low-performing seven-year secondary in Trinidad and Tobago, in order to ascertain whether teachers perceived that low morale existed. It also examined teachers’ perceptions of the significant factors that might have accounted for the state of morale among the school’s teaching staff and sought to elicit their recommendations for improving morale. Data were collected through interviews with five teachers of the school. The findings revealed that, overwhelmingly, teachers were of the view that low morale did exist at the school, which they attributed to weaknesses in leadership style and the administration’s approach to dealing with staff.
