With pre-election violence on the upsurge in Haiti, the Independent Electoral Council protests against the reappearance of Williams Regala, one of the most feared man in the country who was the alleged instigator of the violence that aborted the 1987 elections. Secondly, the ACP Working Group on Bananas held a meeting in Brussels to examine Caricom’s proposals for the regulation of the banana trade in Europe. In the next segment, a study entitled “Europe 1992 and the Caribbean: Crisis, Challenge and Opportunity” by Wilberne Persaud purports that prolong dependence on preferential markets in Europe without more efficient production and diversity will increase the Caribbean’s economic and social problems. Following the Financial News, the British charter travel to Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic have been affected by the rise in British interest rates. In Suriname, the government is accusing the Dutch of improper behaviour after the opposition politicians in Holland hold talks with Ronnie Brunswick, Suriname’s Jungle Commando. However, the Dutch government refused Ronnie Brunswick to meet with Holland’s Foreign Minister and accommodated talks between Brunswick and senior civil servants. The report concludes with a victory by the Jamaican silver medallist, Grace Jackson, in the 200 meters race at the International Athletics Club Grand Prix in Edinburgh.en_US
