Abstract

A view of the pedestrian area of Marine Square, looking west. This area was a thoroughfare for pedestrians and home to the homeless. Originally called the Plaza de la Marina by the Spanish, the area so called extending from the Wharf in the west to the Roman Catholic Cathedral to the east was renamed when the British came in 1797, to Marine Square and in 1962 the Marine Square was again renamed Independence Square.
