Abstract
Blanchisseuse located midway along Trinidad's north coast was settled by the French in 1783 and later named Blanchisseuse (French for washer-woman) by later settlers after British Captain Frederick Mallet, who was mapping and surveying, was told that the village had no name, and observing the women washing cloths in the river, simply wrote on his survey chart "Ladies River". The postcard is addressed to Miss Shirley Porter, Colorado, U.S.A. Affixed to the postcard is a Trinidad and Tobago 3 cents stamp, dated February 28, 1940.
