dc.description.abstract | This report highlights Bermuda as hurricane Felix charges towards it during the scheduled vote for independence. Despite this threat, Chief Minister John Swan states that the independence poll is still on and gives legal reasons as to why the referendum should go ahead. In St. Vincent, the Owens Bank which was named in an Opposition motion of no confidence against the government, has responded to a series of questions based on allegations made against the Attorney General. In Montserrat, a series of tremors from its active volcano have rumbled across the island. Caribbean Report interviewed some residents to find out how they dealt with the tremors. In Trinidad, the main Opposition United National Congress (UNC) has expelled the controversial MP Hussie Bhaggan and moved to have Ms. Bhaggan's seat declared vacant. This was the first use of Trinidad and Tobago's Crossing the Floor Act. In cricket, the fifth test between England and the West Indies ended with the series delicately paused at two all. The sixth and final test starts on the 24th August at the Oval. | en_US |
