Abstract

This is a vintage postcard featuring men and women visiting the pitch lake circa the turn of the 20th century. Their attire seems inappropriate for such an outing but it was appropriate for the early 20th century. The lake looks muddy and wet with little puddles. At least one person is sheltering under an open umbrella and another appears to be having a closer look at the pitch. There are trees and a single story building on the horizon.
