The land formations in this vintage photograph of the caves on Gasparee Island, also known as Gaspar Grande, off the north–west coast of Trinidad, British West Indies, resemble organ pipes standing in blue tranquil water which mirrors their image. Gasparee Island is an island made of limestone. Here there are an intriguing network of underground caves, caverns and sinkholes formed by a combination of wave action, rainfall and percolating ground-water dissolving the limestone. The caves are one of Trinidad’s tourist attractions.en
