Abstract

This serene photograph of the pitch lake at La Brea shows many large ponds. While it is not safe to walk everywhere on the lake some areas are completely safe. The section of the pitch lake in this picture must be one of the safe areas. A lady is seated comfortably on a mound here, her likeness mirrored in the glassy pool behind her. She might be soaking her feet in a pond. Locals bathe in the rain water pools, deeming these sulfur rich waters able to cure all manner of skin maladies. Stretched across the horizon are various trees.
