Abstract

A young lady in a brown polka dotted dress, complete with petty-coat, poses for this photograph. She might be of East Indian descent. Her hair is parted on the side and tied back as she reclines against the trunk of a mature, coconut tree. Behind her is a simple, elevated, wooden, hut with thatched roof and wooden steps. Behind the hut, stretched across the horizon, is a row of coconut trees. Thick foliage hangs over the top right corner of the postcard. This might belong to a mango tree or another type of fruit tree. In the background is a long, squat, structure that also has a thatched roof. Apart from the trees, the yard seems flat and bare with an carefully manicured, earthen floor. This photograph might have been taken in the latter half of the twentieth century.
