2. Anti- Castro exile groups in Florida desire the shutdown of the Miami airport in order to stop the return of 6 year old Elian Gonzalez to Cuba. It was the second day of demonstrations after the U.S. immigration officials have made the decision to return Gonzalez to Cuba. (00:32-02:28)
3. An embarrassing inquiry into the suicide of a death row prisoner is continuing in the Bahamas. John Higgs committed suicide the day before his execution. In Bermuda, human rights groups have commended their efforts to get rid of the death penalty. Fears have increased among prisoners since the John Higgs’ inquest into how he acquired the tool used to end his own life. The inquiry into Higgs’ suicide has revealed the downside of the penal system. (02:29-06:40)
4. Michel Camdessus, the outgoing head of the IMF, said the organization should be given a bigger political clout and clearer responsibilities. He has criticized the rich countries for not giving enough aid and he thinks the fight against poverty should be more of a priority. (06:41-09:56)
5. CARICOM foreign ministers in Trinidad and Tobago have been meeting with their Canadian counterpart Lloyd Axworthy. He told them that Canada favours giving CARICOM the preference for membership in the Free Trade Area of the Americas.
