The postcard shows the gate at the entrance to the city of St. James on the Western Main Road. Many of the streets in St. James reflect an East Indian influence in their names such as Agra, Benares, Bengal, Delhi and Madras, to name a few and the gate to the city of St. James also echoes an East Indian flavour in its architecture. St. James was incorporated into the city of Port of Spain in 1938.en
