Abstract
The title of this postcard indicates it is about Hosay and Ram-Lila but it portrays only a typical Hosay scene where crowds are following a Tadjah or miniature mosque - an integral part of the Hosay celebrations in Trinidad. In Hosay, Shi'ite Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammed's grandsons, Hussain and Hassan, who history records were killed at Karbala, Iraq, in the 17th century, in a battle for supremacy after the Prophet's death. Ramlila on the other hand is primarily a dramatic Hindu folk re-enactment of the life of Lord Ram, ending up in the ten day battle between Lord Ram and Ravan, as described in the Hindu religious epic, the Ramayana. Postcard number c27120.
