Abstract

This serene photograph of the pitch lake at La Brea shows many large ponds. The pitch looks brown and coarse but some areas are soft and unsafe to walk upon. This section of the pitch lake however, must be one of the safe areas as a lady is comfortably seated on a mound, her likeness mirrored in the glassy pool behind her. She might be soaking her feet in a pond. Locals bathe in the rain water pools, deeming these sulfur rich waters able to cure all manner of skin maladies. Stretched across the horizon are various trees. Postcard number 321460.
