Abstract
This photograph taken around the beginning of the twentieth century, is of a man in Indian wear: a dhotie or pair of wrapped shorts; a kurta or long-sleeved shirt and head tie, walking down the centre of the road to San Juan, Trinidad, British West Indies. The road is flanked with electricity lines and coconut palms, which seem to extend to infinity. A few of the palms at right are almost headless, perhaps due to disease. The palms on the left are hemmed in by a simple, concrete-posted, wire, fence. There is another person walking in the road in the background.
