dc.description.tableofcontents2. The U.S. immigration and naturalization service is expected to rule later this evening how a Congressional subpoena will affect the return of Elian Gonzalez to Cuba. Miguel Gonzalez, father of Elian Gonzalez, is caught in the middle of this high profile custody battle between the Anti-Castro exiles in Florida and the Cuban authorities. The situation escalated when the anti-Castro exile community obtained a subpoena grounding Elian in the United States by requesting him to appear before Congress on February 10, 2000. dc.description.tableofcontents3. In the Bahamas the coroner’s inquest into the suicide of death row prisoner John Higgs has revealed more confusion on the night he committed suicide. Debbie Nash reports that the inquest has unearthed many contradictions surrounding the suicide of John Higgs, such as, the use of junior officers on duty on the same night Higgs committed suicide which is not normally the case. Evidence gathered from officers on duty that night is contradictory or did not corroborate with their police statements. (05:06-06:55)en_US
dc.description.tableofcontents4. The two (2) major political parties in Anguilla, The National Alliance and the country’s Democratic Party have signed a cooperation agreement. dc.description.tableofcontents5. The voter registration process is experiencing delays again in Haiti, further risking the timetable for elections. Local and legislative elections have been postponed from last November to March and April of this year. Chris Chapman reports that the delays are as a result of getting voters registered and giving them their electoral cards as well as inadequate and incomplete training of staff to properly carry out their functions. dc.description.tableofcontents6. The debate over the St. Lucian government’s decision to introduce casino gambling heated up following growing support from the public. (12:15-15:30)en_US
