dc.description.abstractLeaseholds in the title of this photograph refers to the company Trinidad Leaseholds Limited that bought all the sugar estate lands in the Pointe-a-Pierre area found to contain oil since 1857 and established a modest oil refinery and oil storage deposit which grew to become one of the most vital refineries in the western hemisphere. This photograph shows the oil refinery from the sea.en
