Abstract

The Barbados national primary school survey 2020 examined drug use and related issues among Class 3 and Class 4 students (typically age 9-11 years) enrolled in public and primary schools across Barbados. It is the third of its kind to be conducted locally, with the previous surveys being conducted in 2006 and 2009. The survey was primarily designed to determine: the prevalence and frequency of drug use, common drug sources and locations of use, as well as the age of first use for various substances. It also assessed a number of factors associated with drug use, including perceived risk, curiosity, access to drugs, parental involvement, school experience, social media use, video gaming and bullying.
