Although the retirement of Prime Minister Michael Manley was not on the agenda at the executive meeting of the PNP, speculation still abounds that it will be discussed at a meeting of the party’s executive, the National Executive Council and the Parliamentary Group on Sunday. In Guyana, Opposition Leader Dr. Cheddi Jagan charges Prime Minister Desmond Hoyte with underselling key sectors of state holdings. Although Britain’s labour party is fielding nine non-white candidates for the upcoming general elections, Guyanese born Member of Parliament Bernie Grant thinks more can be done to encourage the selection of Black and Asian candidates. West Indies Team Manager Deryck Murray is heartened over his team’s victory against India. The West Indies team is now fourth in World Cup standings. State owned Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation will soon have a rival when a new channel CVM starts broadcasting later this year. Finally, participants at a two day conference on women in the media in St. Lucia express disappointment after the Minister for Women’s Affairs, Stephenson King failed to show up to address and formally open the conference.en_US
