Abstract

Keisha Codrington’s performance on the tenor pan was one of the highlights of Pan Ramajay 2001. Codrington’s interpretation of the Mighty Sparrow’s ‘Doh Back Back’ in the soloist preliminaries was met with heartfelt approval and landed her in the semifinals of the competition. Soloist and duets showcased their skills in an attempt to win cash prizes and qualify for appearances in the major Ramajay showcase in July. Eighteen soloists and nine duets appeared before the judges. They were required to choose a selection from a total of fifteen calypsoes. Contestants were accompanied by an aggregation made up of Pelham Goddard on keyboards, Anthony Voisin on rhythm guitar, Emmanuel Ector on bass guitar and Sean Thomas on drums.
