Abstract
The postcard shows a crater on an island that was created as a result of a volcanic eruption which started on October 31st. and continued until November 3rd, 1911. Fishermen first noticed bubbles rising from the water and later a small island emerged. The island became known as Wilkey's Land after police Sergeant Wilkey who went to investigate the phenomenon and was the first person to set foot on the island.
