Abstract
Exterior view of the Public Library in Port of Spain, Trinidad. This building housed the first national library of Trinidad and Tobago and was established in 1851 when the then governor of Trinidad, Lord Harris - 1846 to 1854, put forward the Ordinance to the Council of Government. It was, however, not until 1902 that the library moved to this site on the corner of Pembroke and Knox Streets. Here we see vines on the west wall of the building, a short hedge against the concrete and Victorian cast iron fence and two persons outside the building near a carriage.
