Abstract
This program focuses on world news, but includes a special 10 minute extended edition of the BBC Caribbean Report, which is exclusively dedicated to reporting on international reliefs efforts underway in Haiti, in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010. In other featured news, President Hugo Chavez reverses a decision to ration electricity in Caracas; an American missile strike kills 12 suspected Taliban militants in North Western Pakistan; and a Bhagdad court sentences 11 Iraqis to death for planning and carrying out multiple truck bombings in August 2009. In "Witness", the history segment of the program, Thomas Lamont reflects on the significance of the opening of the shared border between Armenia and Turkey for the first time since 1993. The segment looks at some of the events dating back to just after the outbreak of the Second World War, when the Turks participated in the mass killings of Armenians. The ill feelings which still prevail among some survivors of what is considered to be an attempt at Armenian genocide is highlighted through interviews.
