Abstract

Reports on the call by the Opposition Labour party for a watchdog immigration system following the December 21st decision to detain 190 Jamaican passengers on a chartered flight to Britain. The report also examines the isolation of Jean Bertrand Aristide by politicians in Washington. In addition it looks at the roots of the crime situation in Barbados.

9. An oil spill off the coast of Puerto Rico threatens the island’s tourist industry. A ship carrying 1.5 million gallons of oil has run aground off the coast of the island. Nine tanks broke open after hitting a coral reef spilling 30 gallons of oil into to the sea. Puerto Rico faces a huge disaster as contaminated beaches could be closed for a month (14:05-15:04)
