Abstract

A row of Pitch Diggers excavate pitch in this vintage photograph of the Pitch Lake. At their feet is a line of dug-up pitch that resembles mounds of thick mud. At right, behind the men, there is a rail cart full of chunks of pitch. At left, someone is sitting in a chair holding an open umbrella and on the horizon, there is a row of trees.
