dc.description.abstract | Accusations that British Banana Distributors-Geist tried to raise extra money from Windward island banana farmers – correspondents Debbie Ransome reports, and Mike Jarvis interviews OECS Ambassador Richard Gunn. Former Barbados clients of the disgraced Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) are having access to their deposits through a new bank. The Mutual bank of Barbados through an arrangement of the Barbados Central Bank and the National Insurance Board have taken over the operations of BBCI. Barbados businessman - Douglas Lynch, the new bank’s chairman gives his perspective on the promising future of the BCCI in an interview with correspondent Mike Jarvis In Dutch St. Maarten four (4) protestors have been arrested on the second day of the blockade of a capital St. Phillipsburg. The United St. Maarten Group mounted the protest in an effort to force the local government to resign. The Chamber of Commerce is acting an intermediary in talks with the Lieutenant Governor to end the blockade and secure the release of the protestors – correspondent Mike Jarvis reports. An eighty (80) member team of International Observers, joined with the UN and OAS are spread out throughout Haiti in an extensive monitoring exercise in an effort to restore democracy to Haiti.
