dc.description.abstractThe Prime Minister of Antigua, Barbuda – Vere Bird Senior have come out in support of his son Lester Bird. There are growing concerns over maintaining the cost of the military in a dwindling economy – Lionel Martin reports from Cuba. Dominica’s Prime Minister Dame Eugenia Charles says an opinion poll is needed to determine if a referendum on Windward Islands political “Unity” initiative should be held. General Raúl Modesto Castro has revealed that Cuba was told by the former Soviet Union in the 1980’s that it will not come to its aid if it was attacked by the US. At a conference in Trinidad, Professor Norman Girvan, President of the Association of Caribbean Economist says pressure has once again been put on the Jamaican dollar. Ferose Mohammed, Guyana’s Home Affairs Minister says he wants to see Guyana’s security services infrastructure strengthened. The concluded Pan African conference is asking for total reparation - debt relief and monetary compensation for Africa and the Caribbean for the loss of people and production potential due to slavery and colonialism over the centuries put at an estimated figure of 100 thousand, million US dollars. The anniversary of 40 years of the Federation since ten English speaking Caribbean countries formally agreed to establish the Federation of the West Indies(January 03rd,1958) it became official.en_US
