dc.description.abstract | Gasparee Caves are an intriguing network of underground caves on Gasparee Island, also known as Gaspar Grande, off the north–west coast of Trinidad. The island is composed of limestone and a combination of wave action, rainfall and percolating ground-water has dissolved the limestone crafting sinkholes and sculptures in the caves and caverns. In this vintage photograph we see a cave with stalactites, icicle-like land formations, coming from the roof of the cave and stalagmites, conical formations, growing up from the cave’s floor. The two meet to form a column and this amazing sculpture looks like an organ. The caves are one of Trinidad’s tourist attractions. | en |
