Abstract

Trees and mountains frame this impressive monument which was placed at War Memorial Park, Port of Spain, in honour of Trinidad and Tobago nationals who served and died in World Wars from 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. The monument is inscribed with the words “In honour of all who served. In memory of those who fell.” War Memorial Park, referred to by locals as “Memorial Park”, is surrounded by Frederick Street to the west, Charlotte Street to the east, the Queen’s Park Savannah to the north and Keate Street to the south. A wreath-laying ceremony is performed here annually on Memorial Day in memory of Trinidad and Tobago's fallen war heroes. There are four walkways leading to the Cenotaph at the center.
