Abstract
In his feature address to open the 2001 Junior Steelband Music Festival, coordinator Dwayne Ifill called on the nation’s youth to lobby the Ministry of Education. Ifill is of the view, that the revenues from natural gas can be used to construct soundproof music rooms in schools. Ifill stated that some of the advantages of being musically literate are marketability in areas such as arranging and pan tutoring. He stated that youths who play the national instrument do well in examinations and also learn other skills such as teamwork and time-management.
