Abstract

This serene photograph of the pitch lake at La Brea shows many ponds. Sections of the lake are often soft and unsafe to walk upon. The section of the pitch lake in this photograph however, must be a safe area as three well dressed men in hats stand here engrossed in conversation, a few others walk on the pitch and a lady is seated on a mound, her likeness mirrored in the glassy pool behind her. Locals bathe in the rain water pools, deeming these sulfur rich waters able to cure all manner of skin maladies. Stretched across the horizon are various trees.
