Science curricula at all levels of the education system in Trinidad and Tobago stress the importance of sustainable development and, particularly, the role of environmental conservation as a fundamental factor in achieving sustainability. This article discusses the findings of a study of the views of 14- and 15-year-olds on the importance of environmental conservation. The findings reveal that there was general disapproval among young people for human economic activities that threatened the environment. Interviews with students, however, indicated a discernible lack of willingness among students to raise awareness among the general public on issues related to environmental conservation. In general, though, students showed a positive attitude towards the need to conserve the environmenten_US
