Abstract

In this picture, the pitch lake at La Brea is a sea of ponds. The pitch lake was once considered to be the 8th wonder of the world and largest natural deposit of emulsified asphalt. On the horizon are various trees. In the foreground is one of Trinidad’s native palms, common on dry lands, Acrocomia ierensis.
