A decision by the Dutch government to withdraw its aid from Suriname’s structural adjustment program may force the government into considering alternative funding, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The program drawn by the British firm, Coopers & Lybrand was commissioned jointly by the Dutch government and the European Community (EC) with inputs from the World Banks and the IMF. Former US President, Jimmy Carter has been approached by Haitian Army General, Raoul Cedras to help with the implementation of a UN brokered plan to restore democracy to Haiti.
