dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: The UN Security Council is considering sending human rights monitors back into Haiti following reports of a dramatic rise in human rights abuses in absence of human rights monitors. At the Sixth EC Caribbean Conference in the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean has been urged to continue fighting for special treatment under LOME Four. World recognition of the rights of indigenous people in the Caribbean is being promoted by O'Gustie, Dominica’s Carib Chief has been retracing Columbus’s steps with visits to the islands. In St. Kitts and Nevis the government intends to make the economy, tourism and education key issues in the general elections. Dr. Kennedy Simmonds, Prime Minister says that the campaign will be based on the government’s thirteen year record. Puerto Rico nationals go to the polls to decide the island’s political future – should Puerto Rico become the 51st US state? | en_US |
