Alvin Adams, US Ambassador to Haiti condemns the act as political terrorism in an interview with Hugh Crosskill at the Miami Conference (00:46-02:41)en_US

In a conference presentation, Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago, supports the US president’s Enterprise for the Americas Initiative. John Compton, Prime Minister of St. Lucia, also indicates that a Caricom consensus should revolve around an arrangement similar to the Lome Convention and comments on the reduction of the Caribbean’s external debt. The next presenter, Maria Liberia-Peters, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, expresses reservations about the expansion of the Americas into a single free trade area. Jaime Zablodosky, general coordinator of the Mexico-USA Free Trade Agreement, assures the Caribbean that its position will not be undermined by the new agreement. Prime Minister of Grenada Nicholas Braithwaite and George Foulkes British Labour MP also share concerns on the future of the Caribbean’s economic and social stability. Surujrattan Rambachan further comments on the resistance of the Trinidad and Tobago government against the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen which attempted to use economic hardship as an excuse to overthrow the democratic process.
