Abstract
This study examines the phonological divergence of Vlax Romani dialects from common Romani, focusing on historical sound shifts influenced by prolonged contact with Romanian. It explores implications for language standardization and orthography within the Romani Union, highlighting sociolinguistic factors, migration history, and dialect classification. The paper argues for a practical approach to developing a standardized Romani dialect based on Kalderash Vlax, considering its widespread use and linguistic viability.
