Abstract
The article gives a brief history of Renegades and Pamberi Steel Orchestras. Renegades had its first taste of success in steelband competitions in 1969 and under the arranger Jit Samaroo following the sponsorship of the Amoco Oil Company, the band rose to prominence. Jit Samaroo began to arrange for Renegades from 1972 and the band made it to the finals, the first of many finals for the band. Renegades has also made its mark internationally. Pamberi Steel Orchestra was formed in 1980 from two other steelbands and the name Pamberi means 'forward', taken from the freedom fighter of Zimbabwe. The band's accomplishments are mentioned and the band has performed abroad.
