The appointment of Michael Martin Skol, Guyana’s ambassador designate to Caracas remained on hold as concerns mounted over a previous court conviction over a passport document forgery. Following the resignation of Maria Liberia Peters, Netherlands Antilles Prime Minister the new Mrs. Peters says that she definitely will contest the February general elections. Belize is still buzzing over the arrest of Said Musa, Opposition Party Chairman arrested on charges of bribery and conspiracy to bribe government ministers. Rueben Meade, Montserrat Chief Minister gives his analysis of the situation and states that CARICOM should have pressed ahead on their original decision of the future restructuring of the regional airline LIAT. A group of Cuban exiles in Miami have threatened to target the heart of Cuba’s economy by launching an Alpha 66 campaign – a series of violent attacks on tourists. Three days of storms and tremendous rains in the most easterly part of Cuba have led to the deaths of seventeen people and three still missing, with mass destruction and telecommunications systems unserviceable.
