Item Relationship between continuous assessment and levels of achievement in Social Studies at Carapichaima Junior Secondary School(2009-02-05T17:08:36Z) Ramsingh, RobinItem The relationship between continuous assessment and levels of achievement in social studies at Carapichaima Junior Secondary School(1990) Ramsingh, Robin; This study examined the relationship between continuous assessment and end-of-term examination scores of third form students in social studies at Carapichaima Junior Secondary School in Trinidad. An experiment was conducted over an eight-week period with a control and an experimental group, each with 32 students. The major achievement instruments used in the experiment were multiple-choice tests and short essays. Weekly tests were administered to the experimental group over the eight-week period, and the same terminal assessment was administered to both groups at the end of the experiment. The results of the experiment showed that there was a positive correlation between continuous assessment in social studies and enhanced end-of-term scores in the subject. It was found that: 1) students who received continuous assessment performed significantly better than those who did not, 2) students in both the upper and lower categories of the experimental group recorded higher scores in their experimental period examination than they did in two examinations prior to the experiment, and 3) lower category students exposed to continuous assessment performed significantly better than lower category students in the control group
