Baseline and comparative data: 1990-91 and beyond(1998) Paul, Una M.; Jackson, Janice M.The Government of Guyana negotiated a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to upgrade, both qualitatively and quantitatively, primary education through the Primary Education Improvement Programme (PEIP), which came into effect in 1990. This report presents a compilation of baseline and comparative data for the ex-post evaluation of the PEIP. A random stratified sample was chosen to represent schools by grade and administrative region, which included all the schools affected by the quantitative component of the project. The sample was used for compiling base year data on the availability and distribution of basic textbooks and instructional materials, school-learning physical environment, teacher effectiveness in the classroom, and improved capability of both primary and supervisory personnel. The data collected present a diagnosis of the situation giving the strengths and deficiencies, and provide a benchmark from which comparisons may be made.Item Social values of secondary students and occupational preferences in Guyana(UNESCO, 1979) Khan, Sar B.; Paul, Una M.This study was designed to survey the social values of the students and their attitudes to manual work, in order to find out whether school leavers had internalized the values and attitudes consistent with the national ethos as conceptualized by the state.
