Item Angel Harps Protest Panyard Destruction(Express, 6-Sep-74) Lewis, Roderick; The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and TobagoPan Trinbago has called for an investigation into the circumstances leading to the destruction of Angel Harps Steel Orchestra's panyard on Main Street, Arima. Representatives from the steelbands highlighted that the actions were taken followed instructions from the Crown Lands Divisions. Cedric Campbell, Public Relations Officer, for the region, stated that the land was given to Angel Harps by the Crown Lands Division following a visit by the Prime Minister in 1969.Item Beautiful Music at Pan Festival(Express, 4-Dec-73) Lewis, Roderick; The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and TobagoThe finals of the 1973 Steelband Music Festival has been able to convince those who think of pan as a 'carnival instrument' to think otherwise. The six bands competing in category "B" showed how serious they were by their discipline and generally polished performances. East Side Symphony emerged winners with the overture from "Rosamunde" by Schubert. The company's move to mass-produce pans came in the wake of steelband music being introduced in the curriculum for schools throughout England. Local panmen may soon be buying pans manufactured in England.
