The US decided to press ahead with its challenge although Caribbean leaders have consistently asked the US to rethink its opposition to the regime. In London, banana distributor Geest releases their interim figures which shows an increase in operating profit as they hold a series of consultations with companies interested in taking over its banana business. The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved the bill aimed at blocking foreign investments in Cuba. Meanwhile, Cuba Foreign Affairs official Rafael Dausa states that Cuba's investment thrust will continue despite US legislation. America's anti-drug efforts in the Caribbean was defended by Trinidad-based US Ambassador Brian Donnelly. Donnelly states that his government is pursuing a multi-layered strategy against illegal drugs. In Port-of-Spain, high level talks are due between the Secretary-General of the ACS, Simon Molina Duarte and Trinidad Government Ministers. One major hurdle is the question of funding for the ACS Secretariat. As the Caribbean region has experienced a very active 1995 hurricane season, Dr. William Gray, Colorado State University, Department of Atmospheric Science, explains how he was able to predict this hectic hurricane season.
