An invitation to meet was issued by President Hoyte in response to Eusi Kwayana's, the WPA's lone MP, call on the Government to urgently initiate open dialogue with political parties, and religious and business organizations. Secondly, Lester Bird, Antigua's Deputy Prime Minister, dismisses suggestions of a split in Caricom states due to the different stances of Caribbean countries over the US invasion of Panama. He also contends that the invasion will not adversely affect the Caribbean/Latin American relations. Similar views are also expressed in an interview with Henry Ford, the leader of the Opposition in Barbados. Thirdly, a report by the US Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service predicts that world sugar production in the 1989-1990 is to fall below consumption for the fifth consecutive year. The need to expand Caribbean sugar production to the world market is addressed by Robert Barry, Head of the Research and Analysis Section of the Economic Research Service. The program concludes with the prediction of the heightening of Caribbean economic and social pressures in the 1990s.
