A busy street scene with many people, dressed in the fashion of the day, going about their business. The women are dressed in long dresses and hats, the men are wearing suits. Vendors are seen plying their trade at the side of the street, some with their ware atop their heads. Commercial businesses line both sides of the street, the most recognizable signage being that of “Hart and Company: The Tailor’s Warehouse” at #31. Back of the postcard: Thursday, March 14 – 07: All were shopping together for a while and then the sun left us, and Mrs. Falls, Karolyn, and I wandered in, out, place after place for a good while but could not find very much. There are many stores and shops located on both sides of the street. Persons are seen walking along the street whilst others are travelling in donkey carts plying their trade outside of the shop doors. Most of the men are dressed in long pants and shirts and wearing hats; the women are wearing long dresses with aprons. The buildings appear to be joined together. The roofs are made of wooden shingle structures and the windows are made of wooden shutters. One of the stores which stand out is the one which sells ice, number 30. Back of the Postcard: CHP £20 (handwritten in pencil)Item Chamberlain Bridge, Bridgetown, BarbadosCooper, W. G.The Chamberlain Bridge or Swing Bridge is located in the heart of Bridgetown, Barbados. The bridge is named after Joseph Chamberlain, the British Secretary of State for the Colonies, and it allows entrance into the inner basin from the outer basin of the Careenage. The postcard portrays a view of the Chamberlain Bridge where people can be seen walking on the bridge while some can be seen sitting on block-seats at the bottom of the bridge.
