He had a long association with The University of the West Indies, beginning with an appointment as Junior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, Mona in 1950, moving up through the ranks between I.S.E.R. and the Department of Sociology to become Professor of Sociology in 1965. He also served as, Pro-Vice-Chancellor in 1968 and as Principal and at St. Augustine from 1969-1984.
