Parchment, Velma A.2022-01-182022-01-1819821042https://hdl.handle.net/2139/53142This study examined the effects of certain cognitive, motivational, and attitudinal variables on the performance of Jamaican students in the CXC/GCE Spanish examinations. Questionnaires were used to collect data from a sample of 162 students (59 boys, 103 girls) from single-sex and co-educational schools in the Corporate Area, Kingston, Jamaica. Results of the data analysis indicated that: 1) there were significant relationships between the cognitive measures (Aptitude and Verbal Reasoning) and Achievement; 2) Aptitude correlated significantly with Achievement for both sexes, as did Verbal Reasoning in the case of the girls; and 3) there were significant differences for Aptitude and Drive/ Persistence in favour of boys in single-sex schoolsAcademic achievementM.A.
